Lean systems layout facilitate visual management. A lean factory, or lean-oriented production layout, create a seamless flow of people, material, and information. Lean factories well-designed prevent the build-up of inventory and excess equipment. Also, lean systems layout eliminate waste by reducing frequency setups. There are two techniques used one-worker, multiple machines (OWMM) cells, and group technology (GT). OWMM cells is a work-station in which a worker operates several different machines simultaneously to achieve a line flow. While group technology creates cells not limited to just one worker and has a unique way of selecting work to be done by the cell. GT is an option for achieving line-flow layouts with low volume processes. Lean systems is an important aspect of a business to possess because it guarantees them a lot of success. Enforcing lean systems models helps maximize the value added by the activities within the company while also removing unnecessary waste and delays. Lean systems incorporate many aspects including quality design, supply chain design, technology and inventory management. Close supplier ties and small lot sizes are very important and relate to creating and managing flows.

Pump It Up is a service business. However, it uses the group technology as a lean system layout. Pump It Up has two cells. The first cell is the inflatables, it starts at employees’ team responsible (host) for the party receives all invited children and parents, and everybody needs an armband. Second, they go to room one of inflatables, which children spend 35 minutes. Third, they go to the second room, Arena B, and there are different kind of inflatables, which children spend another 35 minutes playing. The fourth step, the employee team take children and parents to the party room, where they sing happy birthday and eat, spend time 30-45 minutes. Finally, the Pump It Up team takes the party guests to the front room, where they arrived, so children choose their party gifts. The second cell is the Ninja, it starts with employees’ team responsible (host) for the party receives all invited children and parents, and everybody needs an armband. Second, they go to Ninja room, which children spend one hour. Third, the employees’ team take children and parents to the party room, where they sing happy birthday and eat, spend time 45 minutes. Finally, the Pump It Up team takes the party guests to the front room, where they originally arrived, so children choose their party favors
Process Considerations for lean systems use a pull method of workflow, quality at the source, uniform workstation loads, standardized components and work methods, flexible workforce, automation, 5 S practices and finally total preventative maintenance. A pull method is when a customer's demand activates production of the service of an item. Although Pump it Up already has inflatables set up, when a customer books an event, planning for the party starts, so the booking activates the employees to get music ready, food choices available and an event room prepared for the party. When a business consistently meets the customers’ expectations, and when defects are caught right away and are corrected, businesses are adhering to quality at the source. At Pump it Up, if the inflatables are not in good standards, meaning they are old, they cannot inflate as much anymore or something new comes out the business will invest their money in new inflatables for safety reasons and customer satisfaction. The same goes for when food is being prepared for a party the cooks are well aware that the food needs to meet customers standards. Businesses who follow lean systems feel that they work best when the daily load of an individual's workstation is uniform. Having a uniform workstation load means balancing the demands of the business.

A business who has standardized components and work methods reduces their money spending and reduces their waste. When a business analyzes their work methods and documents improvements that need to be made it has been known to be very effective. At the end of every event, Pump it Up administers a survey to the customer who booked the party. This is how they can figure out if they enjoyed it, what might have gone wrong and what the staff can do next time for an event to make it more enjoyable. Also, something that Pump it Up can be more aware of is where and how they store their paperwork for different events. Some of it is organized but a majority of the paperwork are on shelves and the manager's desk so when it comes to ordering new supplies, the staff does not know what the business has run out of and what they need, this creates too much inventory. Social media also plays a role to help them reduce money spending and waste. Using Facebook or Instagram allows staff at Pump it Up to see all of the insights and statistics on who follows them, likes their page and posts and recommendations that anyone might have on how to improve as a business. It allows different marketing strategies and targets.

Every event is marketed on social media and is different in its own way. Events marketed on social media reduce waste since everything is on the computer and not pieces of paper.Automation is a key to low-cost operations. Money that is freed up because of inventory reductions, when inventory is not stored up in a business and taking up space it can be invested in automation to reduce cost. When a business operates with a flexible workforce, they do not need to hire multiple employees because their current employees are trained in all of the areas of the job and do not need any more training. Pump it Up incorporates a flexible workforce because their staff members are capable of multitasking and performing other tasks outside their job requirements. Pump it Up has staff who host events and who are at the front checking in parties, dealing with reservations and speaking with customers. What makes Pump it Up have flexible workforce is that any staff member is able to perform any task in the building, they could be at the front dealing with reservations and another front of the house tasks or they could be hosting a party. The 5 S practices are sort, straighten, shine, standardize and sustain.

Businesses who follow this practice, are organizing, cleaning, developing and sustaining a productive work environment. Total Preventative Maintenance can reduce the frequency and duration of machine downtime, this is so a business can be as productive as possible. Pump It Up has total preventative maintenance. When the inflatables are not being used, some of them deflate until a new event is booked, although money is not being wasted while they are blown up, this saves them money in the long run because eventually new obstacle courses and inflatables need to be purchased when they overused.
